Liberty Olds currently works for Zoos SA. Rotary Club of Kent Town was introduced to her by the Rotary Club of Murray Bridge who assisted with building avery’s at the Monarto Zoo for the mallee emu wrens.
The aviary has been purpose built for the miniature birds. Mallee Emu-wrens weigh around four grams, which is roughly the same as a teaspoon of sugar. Due to the small size of the birds, they can easily get through standard aviary mesh, so it’s been a big project for the team to build an aviary that suits this species.
Liberty has done lots of community projects including Creating for Conservation which is primarily directed at raising funds for education/conservation programs in Zambia. She was on the Council for the Australian Mammal Society for three years and on the Board for Kajokeji Australia Development Initiative building library/facilities in Sudan.
She has managed a number of large events including conferences, quiz nights and fundraisers. Most recent coordination (in Feb) was with Creating For Conservation where she held an African Sundowner at Carclew, and raised over $45000.
